Monash Energy Ltd – Sustainable Development Framework

The Monash Energy Project is a joint project of Anglo American plc and Shell Gas & Power International B.V. to produce liquid fuels from brown coal. The project would involve the gasification of brown coal to release low-sulphur synthetic diesel fuel, with the CO2 stream being captured and stored beneath the ground.

OfforSharp prepared a Sustainable Development Framework and Community Relations Guidelines for the project at pre-feasibility stage. The framework was based on a five capitals structure, drawing upon the extensive sustainable development resources of the UK Forum for the Future’s SIGMA Project. It provided an overarching vision and direction across all the aspects of sustainability, with the intent that it could develop over time into detailed strategic and tactical plans.

The framework was designed to integrate sustainability principles across all elements of the project and into all facets of decision making at all levels by a large team of company and contractor personnel.

Lihir Gold Ltd – Sustainable Development Planning

Following the exit of Rio Tinto from the project, the new LGL management team needed to review and re-focus the company’s sustainable development activities. To kick-off development of a sustainable development strategy, OfforSharp facilitated a strategic planning workshop with the management team. Over the following year, we worked with the company to develop and refine their sustainable development goals and objectives and identify gaps and opportunities. This was built into the company’s Integrated Management System.

Multi-stakeholder group – Mining Certification Evaluation Project

The Mining Certification Evaluation Project (MCEP) was a three-year research project to investigate the feasibility of third party certification of environmental and social performance of mine sites. The project was steered by a working group representing the major mining companies, NGOs, unions, government and academia and facilitated by OfforSharp.

Plastics and Chemicals Industries Association – Sustainability Leadership Framework

PACIA is developing a Sustainability Leadership Framework for the Australian plastics and chemicals industry. OfforSharp facilitated stakeholder feedback on the framework through workshops across the country.

Minerals Council of Australia – Enduring Value

Enduring Value is the Australian Minerals Industry’s framework for sustainable development. OfforSharp supported the development of the framework through facilitating workshops throughout the country to receive feedback on the draft framework.
